Boyd hails Green for wonder save

Burnley were on top in the first half when a Kieran Trippier corner was cleared to the £3m deadline day signing, who hit a vicious, swerving shot that looked destined for the back of the net.

However, former England keeper Green had other ideas, managing to turn the ball onto the post, drawing gasps from the sell-out crowd.

The Clarets went on to lose 2-0, and Boyd admitted: “I thought it was definitely in, it was an unbelievable save.

“Everyone on the bench was right behind it and said it was in all the way.

“It was a fantastic save.”

Boyd was eyeing a third goal of the season, having fired Burnley ahead in the 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Tuesday night, and he smiled: “It was like (Roberto) Carlos wasn’t it!

“I do it a lot in training, that little fade from out to in, and got quite a few opportunities in the first half in that position, and got quite a few shots out.”

Green earlier made a fine stop from Scott Arfield, while Burnley were guilty of not taking their chances, and punished by the Rs, who scored twice after half-time through Leroy Fer and Charlie Austin: “One from Scotty smashed him in the face as well, although he didn’t know anything about that one.

“But we created a lot of chances and there were a lot of positives.

“It was just disappointing to concede the two goals.

“Even at 1-0 down we had a 10-15 minute spell where we were all over them, and if we could have nicked a goal it could have been a very different game.”

The win saw QPR leapfrog Burnley out of the bottom three, but Burnley have only lost twice to sides in the bottom eight, both away from home, as Boyd points out: “Overall it was a good team performance and we’re devastated to lose, especially to a team in and around us.

“When we’re on top we have to get that goal and use that momentum.

“But it’s another one we’ve played away from home, and we’ve got them all to come at home, so we’re confident.

“We’ve been performing well, and anyone who’s seen us knows we’re a good team and capable of beating anyone.”
