Birthday boy Mee – ‘spirit bodes well for Clarets’

The former Manchester City youngster turned 26 on the day of the game, and played his part in a rearguard action as the Clarets ground out a second clean sheet of the season, in a goal-less draw at the iPro Stadium.

Burnley had to dig deep against an impressive Rams side, and Mee said: “It’s a good group of lads and we all fight for each other, you can see that.

“And it bodes well for the forthcoming games and the rest of the season, so hopefully we can build on that and the good start that we’ve made.

“We didn’t play our best but we dug in and games like that bring the team together and we’ll take a lot of positives out of it, knowing that we’re not playing too well but we couldn’t be broken down, and that’s a big thing.

“That’s going to be a big part of the season if we defend well on the road against good teams like Derby, and possibly nick a few wins.

“We’d like to play better obviously and keep the ball better, but we dug in and got the point.”

Mee added: “It would have been nice to celebrate (his birthday) with a win, but we dug in well and I think it’s going to be an important point. It’s not an easy place to come and we’re happy with a clean sheet.

“Tom (Heaton) had a couple of saves from distance but other than that they create too many clear cut opportunities and we could have possibly nicked it.”
