The 26-year-old scored his second goal of the season in the 3-1 defeat against Southampton at St Mary’s, beating Fraser Forster from the penalty spot after Ben Mee was obstructed by Dusan Tadic.

The former Wolves man was also on the scoresheet alongside Andre Gray when Sean Dyche’s side inflicted the only loss to date in Liverpool’s campaign.

“As a striker you always want to score goals and it was nice to get on the scoresheet,” he said.

“It kicked us on a bit and we had a little bit of a charge after that, but it came after we went 3-0 down which wasn’t good.

“It shows the belief in the boys, though, because they never gave up.

“I feel brilliant.

“It was a tough afternoon but I think we’ve looked good over the last few weeks.

“Every minute and every week I’m feeling more confident.”

The Clarets host Everton tomorrow, with Ronald Koeman’s Toffees arriving at Turf Moor on the back of a hard-earned point against league leaders Manchester City.

However, Vokes insists that his team-mates don’t fear anybody on home soil, and they’ll be ready to take the game to their opponents.

“Obviously it was a blow against Arsenal late on but the performances have been there so we just need to get the results to go with it,” said the Welshman.

“The boys are good.

“Obviously they’re down because nobody likes losing and everyone is competitive and wants to win games.

“We’re a bit down from the performance, but we’ll pick ourselves up for a big game at home on Saturday.

“We’ll be ready for that.”

He added: “We’ve been back in training, working hard, and it’s important that we focus.

“We’ll put that to bed and look ahead to Everton.

“We’ve done really well at home.

“It’s been a strong point for us this year and we know that we need to make Turf Moor a fortress.

“Away from home we definitely need to look at that and go into games with a different mentality than we have done.

“They’re another good side but at home we’ve been brilliant so hopefully we can get a result.”
