Austin exit reports denied

Reports this morning suggesting Burnley have agreed a fee with Hull City for striker Charlie Austin are wide of the mark.

However, it appears increasingly likely that the former Swindon Town frontman, 24 on Friday, will leave Turf Moor - despite being offered improved terms to stay at the club.

Interest in Austin has picked up over the last week or so, with Nottingham Forest and Stoke City also entering the race, but joint-chairman John Banaszkiewicz said: “There are a number of clubs interested in Charlie, but we’ve not agreed anything with anyone at this stage.

“There is nothing finalised at our side.

“We have had communication with a number of clubs, but we’re still some way away from agreeing anything.

“It had been very quiet on him up to a week ago, but interest is picking up now.”

And he revealed the club have made steps to keep him at the club, as he enters the final year of his contract: “We’re trying our best to keep him and have offered him a very good contract - he’s a terrific goalscorer and we’ve tried to see the best deal the club can offer him. It might not be enough to keep him, but we’ll see.”

Austin was Eddie Howe’s first signing for the club in January 2011, arriving for £1.2m.
