Arfield not getting carried away yet

But midfielder Scott Arfield isn’t dreaming of the Premier League just yet.

The Scotland B international insists the focus is as it has been all season, purely on the next game - Saturday’s trip to Charlton Athletic.

Arfield netted his seventh goal of the season on Saturday as Burnley came from behind to beat Leeds 2-1 at Turf Moor, and go 10 points clear in the automatic promotion places, and he said: “Its a great position to be in, you’d rather be that then anything else, but the mentality has been the same since the first game of the season against Bolton to now.

“It’s a good position to be in, but it’s every game as it comes.

“It’s a formidable league and every game’s going to be tough.”

Saturday was tough, but for the second time in three games, Burnley came from behind to win, and Arfield wasn’t surprised by a Leeds side who had shipped nine goals in two home defeats: “We knew what was going to happen, they were going to come at us after two bad results so it was up to us to put a performance in.

“The first half was very scrappy but I think overall we deserved it.

“I think you need to show resilience in this league. If you crumble you get found out, and it’s certainly not in our make-up to do that.

“We stood up, started passing the ball in the second half and got the second goal.

“The first half was a bit scrappy, nothing was really happening then Tripps made a great run, Dean Marney played him in and we got a bit of luck there with the ball in the back of the net.

“Overall I think we controlled the second half without them making too many chances.

“One goal was the difference but overall I think we deserved it.”

And to chip in with another goal was pleasing: “I caught it ever so sweet, I didn’t have time to think about it after a great clearance from Tom Lees.

“I’m delighted with it.

“I think it’s very important that it’s not just Vokesy and Ingsy that’s carrying it. It’s a brilliant partnership up the top but it’s important for others boys to chip in - the likes of myself, Dean Marney, Keith Treacy, Junior, Ross.”
