Alan Pace makes 'fallen short' admission ahead of Burnley's looming relegation
Alan Pace has acknowledged Burnley fans’ frustration in his programme notes ahead of tonight’s clash against Manchester City – in which their relegation can be confirmed.
The Clarets’ third straight relegation from the Premier League will be confirmed this evening if they lose to Pep Guardiola’s title chasers.
Even if it doesn’t happen tonight, it’s only a matter of time until Burnley’s fate is sealed.
It’s been another miserable campaign in the top flight for the Clarets, who have won just four of their 33 games and are on a dreadful run of one win in 24.
It’s led to criticism of both manager Scott Parker and Pace, something the Burnley chairman has now acknowledged in his programme notes for tonight’s Turf Moor encounter.
“I understand there is frustration at the moment,” he penned. "In football we want to win games and we have fallen short this season.
"The Premier League is the most difficult league in the world and yes, we are struggling at the moment. But from every challenge in life lessons and learnt and I would urge you to stay with us.

"With five games of the season remaining, it’s important that we are unified and aim to show the best version of ourselves until that final whistle goes on May 24.”

Pace also spoke of his frustration at Sunday’s 4-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest, where the Clarets squandered a half-time lead to lose heavily following a late collapse.
"Following Zian’s [Flemming] well worked goal, it was disappointing to concede four goals in the second half on what was a difficult afternoon at the City Ground,” he added.
"First off I want to thank the supporters who travelled to Nottingham. I’m aware of the time and expense it takes to support us on the road. We are truly grateful for your commitment.”
On a more positive note, Pace finished his notes by referencing the women team’s title showdown with Stoke City on Sunday.
Should Ross Wallace’s side match Wolves’ result, they will seal promotion to the second tier of the women’s game.
"With promotion to the WSL2 up for grabs on the day, it’s set to be a momentous occasion, so I would encourage you to please get behind the team and show your support on the day,” he said.
"It’ll make all the difference.”
