Stanley raced into a 3-0 lead within nine minutes,going ahead within two minutes as Seamus Conneely rifled home a terrific strike from 30 yards inside Matt Gilks’ left-hand post.

Matt Crooks doubled the advantage on five minutes as he clipped the ball over Gilks from Pietro Mingoia’s throughball.

And on nine minutes, a shell-shocked Burnley were three goals down as Terry Gornell’s shot was parried, and Sean McConville - fresh from a hat-trick at Nelson on Wednesday night - finished.

The Clarets gradually found their feet in the game, and had the ball in the net through Vossen, but the whistle had already blown for a foul by Lukas Jutkiewicz.

Jutkiewicz then won a penalty just after the half hour after being upended by Tom Davies, picking himself up to lash in past 6ft 9ins keeper Jason Mooney off the underside of the bar.

Within two minutes it was 3-2 as Vossen side-footed past Mooney after Matt Taylor’s ball in found Jutkiewicz, whose flick rebounded to the Belgian, who made no mistake.

Sean Dyche made nine changes at the break, but after an eventful first half - to say the least - things settled down somewhat.

Chances were few and far between after the break, but Stanley wrapped up what is thought to be their first win over Burnley six minutes from time as former Claret Shay McCartan’s deflected cross fell kindly for Crooks, who drilled hard and low past Gilks.
