Pro Petersen signs off with a bang

The 21-year-old will team up with his Franchise, Boland, ahead of the tournament which commences on September 4th.

The South African fell one run short of his century when caught by Paul Chaplin off Lee Burgess, having hit 12 fours and two sixes from 114 balls.

The paid man put on 109 for the opening wicket with Kyle O’Connor (66) before the skipper was first to go.

Thomas Turner added 26 as Read climbed to 231.

In reply Richard Sharples took 5-34 to restrict the hosts, while Elliot Lowes added 2-38.

Petersen also scored 90 in a fruitful weekend as Read beat Whalley by 96 runs on home soil on Saturday in a match reduced to 28 overs by the rain.

Petersen put on 97 for the first wicket with O’Connor (34), and shared 59 for the second with Joe Marshall (32).

Simon Gorton took 4-65 for Whalley off nine overs, and now has 59 wickets for the season.

Whalley’s new overseas professional, former Chorley professional Brenton McDonald, had a day to forget with the ball as he took 2-79 off 12.

Australian leg spinner McDonald recently left Windsor Park after breaking his contract, and replaces Hiken Shah.

In reply, Lowes claimed figures of 5-29 and Richard Sharples 3-20 in the defence of their side’s 200-8 total.

Opener James Galling hit 35 off 51 balls, but other than Lee Kearsley (22 not out), no one could stick around for Whalley as they were restricted to 104-9.

Whalley are at Cherry Tree on Saturday, while Read are at Ramsbottom Cup winners Oswaldtwistle Immanuel.
