Anderson went for 67 runs off his 10 overs, without taking a wicket as he and the rest of the England attack suffered at the hands of the Aussies, who amassed a huge total of 342-9 in their 50 overs.

In reply, England were dismissed for 231 in the 42nd over, with Anderson run out for eight.

England’s next fixture comes on Friday as they face the other co-hosts New Zealand in Wellington at the Westpac Stadium, with wickets pitched at 1 a.m. GMT.
