Disabled hardball team through to county final

Lancashire Disabled Hardball team have won through to the County Championship Final.

The locals, whose head coach is Ribblesdale Wanderers stalwart John Rain, will now play at the County Ground, Derbyshire on September 16th after beating Hampshire at Church Meadow.

The visitors won the toss and put Lancashire in to bat. Opening pair, locals Warren Whitaker and brother Andrew, put on 21 before the former was caught, but in-form batsman Calum Flynn helped moved the score on to 88 before Andrew Whitaker (34) was caught. Flynn, supported by Mark Thompson, went on to make an outstanding 102, off 100 balls, before being caught at 202. Despite some excellent bowling from Alex Hammond, who took 5-32 off six overs, Lancashire set a total of 212 off 38 overs.

In reply, Lancashire put pressure on Hampshire, who at the half way point were 49-3 wickets. But Alex Hammond and brother Hugo managed a strike rate in excess of six an over to keep their hopes alive.

Alex was run out for 83 and Hugo caught behind for 55, however, to end Hampshire’s challenge on 164.

Matt Partington ended with 5-25 off seven overs.
