Burnley Cricket Club pair proud of Jimmy Anderson links as the “Burnley Express” makes history

Burnley Cricket Club duo Michael Brown and Bharat Tripathi spoke of their pride after “Burnley Express” James Anderson made history by usurping Sir Ian Botham as England’s most prolific Test bowler.

The 32-year-old, who began his career as an amateur in the Lancashire League at Turf Moor, claimed victim number 384 when dismissing West Indies skipper Dinesh Ramdin during the First Test stalemate in Antigua’s Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Following the record-breaking haul, which preceded Burnley’s capture of the Ron Singleton Colne Trophy at the expense of rivals Lowerhouse, Anderson’s one-time team-mate Brown said: “It’s an amazing achievement made even more special by the fact that it was his 100th Test match. It’s great that’s he’s become England’s leading wicket taker in Test cricket. He’s a brilliant ambassador for the club and for the town.

“He’s grown to become one of the most skilful bowlers England has produced and his technique and talent was founded at club level. He’s been through the mill a bit as well but he returned a better bowler and so fully deserves his success. He still holds the club close to his heart.”

Meanwhile skipper Tripathi, who guided Burnley to victory over Bacup just 24 hours after cementing the club’s first piece of silverware of the season, said: “It was a great day for the club, it was absolutely massive. It had a similar feel to when we won the Worsley Cup for the second season in succession last year because the club had accomplished something huge.

“Burnley Cricket Club can take pride in having a hand in helping one of the best bowlers ion the world and one of the best bowlers that England has ever produced. The whole club was bouncing and everybody is extremely happy for James.”
