Anderson facing potential Test ban after India lodge complaint

Anderson is the first England cricketer to go before an International Cricket Council judicial commission, having been accused of pushing India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja during last week’s first Test at Trent Bridge.

The second Test started yesterday at Lord’s with a sub-plot adding to the tension after the “Burnley Express” was cited in a complaint lodged to the ICC on Monday by India’s team manager Sunil Dev.

England feel the incident was minor, with witnesses from both sides contradicting each other.

The England and Wales Cricket Board were expected to lodge a counter complaint against Jadeja, although they were mindful of lodging a claim of a Level 3 offence, in case it is seen as an admission of a physical confrontation.

Instead, it was likely to be reported as a Level 2 offence, with a fine more likely than a suspension.

An ICC statement said the incident took place as the players left the field at lunch on day two last Thursday, after, in the over before the interval, Anderson had an appeal for a catch behind off Jadeja turned down.

That led to a verbal confrontation, which spilled over in the corridor in the pavilion.

The ICC statement said: “Anderson has been charged for allegedly abusing and pushing Ravindra Jadeja immediately after they left the field for lunch on Thursday.

“It is alleged that this was a continuation of a ­verbal altercation between Anderson and Jadeja as they were walking from the field.”

Meanwhile, Lowerhouse are out to defend their Lancashire League 20/20 title as they host Church tonight, with wickets pitched at 6-15 p.m..

The West Enders beat Ramsbottom by a whopping 112 runs at Liverpool Road last year in front of a bumper crowd, and they will be hoping for similar tonight.

Charlie Cottam’s league leaders were chasing a treble until Sunday, when they lost in the final over of a thriller at Rawtenstall, but they will look to consolidate, and add to, their 10-point advantage over Ramsbottom on Sunday, as they entertain struggling Colne.

Burnley will be buoyed by last weekend’s double success, as they beat Rawtenstall in the league on Saturday, before earning a date with the Rossendale Valley side in the Worsley Cup Final the following day, courtesy of victory over Nelson - who host Bharat Tripathi’s side on Sunday.

• Lowerhouse Dolphins lost out to Salesbury, despite contributions with the bat from Drew Sandiford (17), Alex Astley (11) and Josh Waddington (11), while Josh Astley (3-10) and Becky Gorton (3-12) were in the wickets.

The Under 15 Barracudas beat Church, as, after Samiya Rahman removed the two openers, the bowling and fielding strangled the Church innings. Rahman took 2-9 and Bcky Gorton 2-10, while Josh Waddington hit 14 not out.

The Barracudas went down to Bacup, however, despite knocks from Robson Elliott (15), Luke Cocker (14), Conor Juriansz (14) and Harry Wheatcroft (11).

The Under 13 Panthers racked up their biggest score of 178-7 in beating Darwen, with Max Dawson (30 not out), Josh Moodie (30 not out), Ben Woodall (24 not out), Alex Astley (28) and Jack Simm (16) scoring well. Sam Molloy took 2- 26.

The Panthers also beat Nelson with contributions from Rowan Greenwood (37), Moodie (34), Dawson (23), Yanis Chir (21), Molloy (19) and Sam Harrison (2-5).

And the side completed a hat-trick by beating Ramsbottom with Moodie hitting 32 not out, Josh Astley 21, Ben Woodall 13 not out and Jack Simm 10 not out.

The Under 9s Hornets beat Bacup as Libery Heap-Gibbons scored 32 not out, Kier Greenwood 16 not out, Henri Cottam 14, Dec Metcalfe 13 not out, Keagan de Vries 12 and Rory Cormack 11. Greenwood took 2-3 and Cottam 2-9.
