Cricket review: Burnley end on high and Nelson are champions too

Nelson join Burnley and Lowerhouse in top division as all three end season with a win

Champions Burnley Cricket Club ended the Lancashire League season on a winning note and will be joined in the top-flight next season by Nelson, the only club to have won more league titles.

Nelson claimed top spot in division two thanks to a 44-run home win over promotion rivals Crompton.

A week after moving to within one of Nelson's record 21 league titles by sealing their fifth in seven seasons, Burnley ended the campaign with a 32-run home victory over Todmorden.

Fergus Bailey's 5-12 off seven overs, his best figures for the club, helped to remove the visitors for 134 in reply to Burnley's 166-7.

The hosts had laboured to 34-4 before Ryan Canning's unbeaten 70 and this 15th win of the season kept Burnley 16 points clear of runners-up Walsden.

Lowerhouse held onto fourth spot with a 66-run win at Norden, who were dismissed for 133 chasing 199.

Francois Haasbroek led way with 69 and shared in a fourth-wicket stand of 104 with Charlie Gansier (29) after Lowerhouse lost three wickets on 42. Jack Taylor finished with 4-30 and Tahir Maqsood 4-51.

The Rochdale side were then lifted from 24-4 with a stand of 92 between Leighton Friend (80 not out) and Oliver Makin (20), but from 116-4 they could add only 17 as Daniel Salpietro took 4-19 from 22 balls.

Enfield beat the drop with a last-day victory over bottom club Littleborough, sending Haslingden down.

Nelson finished 10 points clear in division two after ending their campaign with a sixth straight win.

Their total of 153-6 looked unlikely at 24-4 before Gulraiz Sabir scored 73 and shared an unbroken stand of 65 with Lewis Bradley.

Crompton were dismissed for 109 as only one player reached 20 and Tyler McGladdery took 4-17 from 12.2 overs.

The defeat cost them promotion as Accrington held onto second spot despite finishing with a one-wicket defeat at Rochdale.

Colne ended on a high with a 104-run win after racking up 249-6 at Rawtenstall .

Geeth Kumara hit nine sixes in an unbeaten 104, his season's best, after Ismheel Shakeel kicked the innings off with 48, Keith Roscoe taking 4-52.

Roshan Lakmal then made an unbeaten 51 for Rawtenstall, backing up opener Thomas Egan's 47, but the seven who followed him to the crease scored nine between them. Matthew Walker took 4-21 as the hosts were dismissed for 145.

Colne finished sixth after this 10th win, while Rawtenstall stayed above a drop zone occupied by Church & Oswaldtwistle and Bacup, with Torrisholme and Heysham taking the Palace Shield promotion spots.
