Burnley complete a derby clean sweep against Pendle

The game was an excellent advert for local rugby, with a high level of skill and entertainment.

The locals were soon brought back to earth as Pendle responded brilliantly through their physical centre pairing, though Burnley defended magnificently.

Pendle had one memorable 30-metre drive, resulting in a quick tap, but the attacker was held up and that chance went.

Pendle won several penalties but continually opted to kick for the corners in an attempt to get tries, which was to later cost them.

Burnley weathered the storm and to add insult to injury they hit back as they won a scrum, and Adam Healy burned down the left to score.Parkinson added the kick and Pendle were down by 14.

Just before the half, Parkinson kicked a penalty to make it 17-0.

The game began again with a bang after the break.

Pendle’s outside centre had been warned in the first half twice for high tackles, and the referee lost patience after his third attempt, despatching the centre to the bin

Then, after a great scrum, Lee Farrier took a switch pass to glide through, and Sam Mounsey added the kick.

After a superb handling move, Crowley was tackled short of the line, but back row Adam Wallis was in support to take the offload and score.

Pendle roared back and the hosts lost a player to the bin, but with more good ball, Botha ran straight and carried two defenders over the line to grab his second. Mounsey added the extras to make it 47-0.
