Burnley bowl over their rivals

Girls from Burnley High School have bowled over the opposition to capture a county cricket title.

The year seven and eight students – who earlier this year had captured the Burnley Schools’ title – carried off the Lancashire Schools’ accolade at an indoor tournament in Lancaster.

The BHS pupils took on seven schools from throughout the county, winning all their matches.

They will now go onto to the regional finals involving the top teams from Greater Manchester.

Sports teacher Chris Mason, who accompanied the team, said: “What a wonderful achievement for the girls.

“They stood out in batting, bowling and fielding.

“But I was just as pleased when teachers from other schools congratulated us and praised our students for being such a nice bunch of girls.”

Team captain Ella Moorhouse, starred with the bat, amassing 85 runs without being dismissed in the competition.

And she added: “At times the girls were brilliant.

“Their fielding has improved so much.”
