Sandygate star Brett lands NW Championship
Burnley College pupil Brett Windle (17) competed in the Regional Semi-Final and Final on consecutive days, hoping to land the 56kg crown.
Friday night saw Windle compete against Mancunian Jordan Walsh (Northside ABC) in the semi-final, boxing very controlled in all three three-minute rounds.

Hide AdGannow’s Windle kept centre throughout, making great use of his switches and two-phase attacks, controlling proceedings in each round, and the Burnley Boxer picked up a unanimous verdict and a passage through to Saturday’s final against the durable North West CYP champion Alex Clegg (Jimmy Egans ABC).
The opening exchanges were brutal, with both pugilists not taking a step back.
Working his lead hand jab well, Windle started to dominate, catching Clegg in the clinches. The second round saw the Sandygate star start to counter and use the full ring, increasing his lead with some great hand speed and accuracy, catching Clegg with a timed rear hand hook to the body, then hooking to the head, before returning to his lead hand.
In the third, Clegg came full throttle but the barrages were met by a tight guard and pin-point countering by Windle, who was crowned the new North West Youth Champion. Windle now boxes in the last eight of the country in Tyne Tees.
