Reece rocks in latest bout

Sandygate Amateur Boxing Club’s hot prospect Reece “The Rock” Jackson returned to the squared circle in style at the weekend.

The 11-year-old travelled to Salmesbury to face Mancunian debutant J. Jabar (Dynaminc ABC), and the youngster dominating from the opening bell with his unique body moves and pin-point jabs.

The second and third rounds saw Jackson open up his full arsenal of punches, keeping centre and moving to the body with ease, before the referee raised his hand.

“Reece just seems to really enjoy himself in the ring, even the crowd notice his big smile when he is banging his gloves together, bouncing on his feet waiting for the opening bell,” said delighted coach Nik Tucker.

Burnley’s Calum Rainey (15) was also on the bill against H. Kahn (Dynaminc ABC) in a bout which had the crowd scratching their heads at the end. Kahn took the first round, moving well inside and turning off the ropes well, but the second saw Rainey match his opponent in a real toe-to-toe encounter.

The third and final round once again saw the Holmes Street boxer take control, and the confusion was evident ringside by the knowledgable fight fans when Kahn received the nod. “We were very happy with Calum’s performance, although not so happy with the verdict, but we will be entering Calum in the ABA Junior Novice Finals this year,” said Tucker.

The club have a busy start to the season with NW champions Jerome Lawton and James Kimberley both boxing soon as well as Tom Abbott and Alfie Wardle.
