Reece is rock in Bootle

COLNE boxer Reece “The Rock” Jackson had the honour of being the first Sandygate ABC fighter this season to enter the squared circle last Friday.

The 11-year-old was pitted against Bootle ABC’s Brian Walton, 12, at the British Army’s Merseyside Altcar Training Camp, which hosted a charity boxing extravaganza in aid of Alder Hey Hospital and Orchid (Fighting Male Cancer) Funds.

The first round saw Jackson dominate straight from the bell, giving his Liverpudlian opponent not a moments peace.

The Year 7 Park High Pupil punched, pummelled and penetrated his taller foe with his rigid jab.

The second, much like the first was one way in favour of the Sandygate boxer.

The middle of the third saw the young Colne prospect shake Walton to his boots with a blistering left hand, which had the man-in-the-middle studying carefully.

Young Reece’s smile at the end said it all at the final bell.

“To come to Liverpool and put in a performance like that was awesome, Reece works hard in the gym and deserves the plaudits”, said Sandygate ABC coach Nik Tucker.
