Nelson boxer Mustaq’s career on the rise

New kid on the block Atif Mushtaq believes his professional boxing career is gathering momentum.

The Nelson newcomer endured a disappointing baptism with a draw against journeyman Kristian Laight, but the 26-year-old responded admirably to win three contests in succession.

The latest outing came on the undercard of Shayne Singleton’s WBC International Silver title triumph over Hungarian Laszlo Fazekas, where he secured a points victory over seasoned fighter Dan Carr at Colne Muni.

Mushtaq’s intense sessions with coach Stuart McFadyen and the strength and conditioning programmes with Ash Alderson proved pivotal to victory against a powerful opponent who used all his experience to make life hard for the home fighter.

Mushtaq worked well behind a darting jab, followed up with crushing hooks, and that scenario almost resulted in his foe being floored in the second round.
