Fighting Talk: Porter has earned IBF World title rematch with Brook!
The 27-year-old, who has seen off Erick Bone and Adrien Broner since defeat to the Brit, lost his strap to the Matchroom fighter after 12 rounds in California just over 10 months ago.
Porter handed Devon Alexander only the second defeat of his professional career in 2013 to take the prestigious belt and defended his title four months later against Paul Malignaggi.
And he took another significant stride towards re-claiming, what was, his prized possession in a dominant display against a brash Broner, despite hitting the canvas in the final round.
“Porter deserves a big fight now,” said Blackledge. “Amir Khan would be a great fight but I’d like to see him get a rematch with Brook.
“The last contest was really close so I’d say Brook v Porter II is definitely on the cards.”
Meanwhile, Clitheroe’s Commonwealth champion feels it’s time for Broner to focus on his boxing instead of turning his profession in to a pantomime.
Broner’s ostentatious behaviour throughout certainly caused friction, but his application in the ring failed to match the animation out of it.
Consequently Porter’s dad, Kenny, rejected Broner’s offer of a handshake after the bout.
“Broner gave them a lot of grief,” said Blackledge. “He’s a good fighter but he’s slightly deluded. He thinks he’s a better fighter than what he is.
“He needs to focus more on his fighting and find a comfortable weight. Going up and down all the time isn’t helping him.”
