Yorkshire folk are among meanest at Christmas

The average amount of money spent on Christmas presents in the UK is about £260 but if your friends and family live in Yorkshire or Northern Ireland you may be disappointed with your presents this year.

New research from cashback and voucher code website Quidco.com has found the amount spent on presents ranges dramatically between regions, meaning the quality of your presents depends on where your family and friends live. The most generous places were found to be Scotland and Wales. Over half of all Scots and four in 10 people living in Wales spend over £300 on Christmas presents for others.

Beginning with the most generous, here are the regions in order of amount of money spent on Christmas presents:

Hannah Green, at Quidco, said: “It’s been another tough financial year for many people and that dictates the amount that can be spent on Christmas presents. Our research suggests some areas are feeling the pinch more than others with Yorkshire and the East of England spending less on their loved ones’ Christmas presents than the rest of the UK.”
