World ‘Mr Cycling’ in Clitheroe to launch sports injury clinic

Brian, who was in California earlier in the week to start the Tour of California and then later present Mark Cavendish with the yellow jersey – travelled back to open the NJD Sports Injury Centre at Hawthorn Business Park, Lincoln Way, Clitheroe.

Brian, from Whalley, a long-standing client of the clinic, earned the title “Mr Cycling” after helping British Cycling avoid insolvency in 1996, and was credited with turning British Cycling around.

Under his unpaid presidency from 1997 to 2013, British Cycling won 19 Olympic gold medals, 28 Paralympic gold medals, and the Tour de France twice. He became UCI president in September 2013.

He has close links with NJD Sports Injury Centre owing to their specialist work with cyclists, covering injury management, rehabilitation, computerised bike-fitting and strength and conditioning aspects.

More than 80 people attended the opening day, many taking part in taster sessions such as Boot-camp, Pilates and Yoga. Others took the opportunity to listen to professional advice on nutrition and the Well-Man clinic which included advice and support for obesity, diabetes and blood pressure.

Founded by Nick Dinsdale, former Sports Therapist to Great Britain Cycling Teams, the clinic previously focused on treating sports injuries, but now integrates key aspects of sports science and sports medicine.

The NJD team all hold BSc Hons and MSc degrees in sports science or sports therapy, and the clinic incorporates treatment rooms, computerised bicycle fitting studio, and gym/rehabilitation area.
