Woman (68) dies after Burnley road accident

Police are appealing for information after a 68-year-old local woman died following a collision with a car.

The incident happened around 5.50pm yesterday (Friday) in Brunshaw Road, Burnley.

It is believed the woman was crossing the road when the collision occurred with a black Ford Focus car.

She was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with serious head injuries, but died this morning (Saturday 20).

The road was closed for more than two hours following the incident.

Sgt John Jennings-Wharton of the Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic incident and specialist officers are with the woman’s family and our thoughts are with them. An investigation to establish the circumstances of the collision is already underway and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information about what happened to contact us.”
