Witness appeal after daylight attack at bus stop

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in Burnley.

The 39-year-old victim was standing in a bus shelter in Church Street about 5pm on Saturday when he was approached by a man who started to kick and punch him.

He fell to the floor and was then assaulted with his own walking stick, leaving him with cuts and bruises.

The assault stopped when members of the public intervened.

A man has been arrested and charged.

DC Phil Pilkington, of East CID, said: “I would like to thank those members of the public who intervened to stop this assault and I would appeal for anyone who saw what happened and who hasn’t yet spoken to the police to come forward and contact us.”
