Witness appeal after axe attack on man at home

A Burnley man is lucky to be alive after he was attacked with an axe and meat cleaver in a frenzied attack in his own home.

The terrifying incident took place just after midnight on Saturday, April 4th, when two offenders smashed their way into a terraced house in Penistone Street, Burnley, and attacked a 23-year-old man with an axe and meat cleaver.

The victim was subjected to a number of blows and sustained multiple slash wounds to his legs, back, hands and head.

He was taken by ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital where he underwent surgery to reattach his fingers.

Det. Sgt Alisa Wilson of Burnley CID said: “This was a horrific attack on a young man in his own home which was isolated, targeted and planned.

“I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the offence, the aftermath or has any information in connection with it to make contact.

“The weapons used during the attack have not yet been found. Despite charges being brought against one man, the investigation is continuing and I am appealing for witnesses to come forward.”

Police arrested two men on Saturday aged 22 and 23 in connection with the incident.

Anthony Power (23) of Clare Street, Burnley, was charged with aggravated burglary and GBH and remanded in custody to appear at Burnley Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The 22 year old man has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
