Wildlife crime: three held in Burnley raid

THREE men were detained after raids as part of a joint investigation into wildlife crime.

Police and a specialist RSPCA team executed warrants at Westmoreland Street and Cog Lane in Burnley and seized items relating to items relating to wildlife crime and suspected drug offences.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of supplying cannabis resin and bailed pending further inquiries. A 31-year-old man was given a caution for possessing cannabis and an 18-year-old was arrested but released without charge.

Police wildlife crime officer Mark Thomas said: “The warrants that were executed are just a small part of a wider multi-agency approach to tackling wildlife crime in the county. Lancashire Police will not turn a blind eye to offences such as badger baiting or deer poaching and we will take strong action against those who we believe are responsible for these crimes.”
