The Let’s Walk and Talk group has never missed a Tuesday walk in its history, and such has been its popularity, a second book with walking routes around the town has been released so the wider public can also enjoy the plethora of paths around Barnoldswick.

More than 40 relished Tuesday’s walk in bright sunshine before a Jacob’s Join in the Frank Street welfare centre where a celebration cake, decorated with the new book’s front cover, was served up.

“There was such enthusiasm for the book and I hope it is something people use and treasure.”

Heather Sheldrick, who designed the book, said: “This is the second book after the first was released five years ago. We have printed 1,000 copies of it, twice the quantity, after all 500 of the first edition sold out. People have kept asking ‘when is the book coming out’ and now it’s finally here.

“It looks great and it features 22 walks. Most of them are two hour walks but there are four longer walks which are a bit more challenging.

“It has been brought up to date and even has OS maps for people who are visiting which are very useful for those who wish to explore the countryside around Barnoldswick further.

“We have had a lot of help with people contributing and I would like to thank those people, as well as Barnoldswick Town Council and Pendle Council for their support too.”

The new 60 page book can be bought for £4 from Elaine’s Wholefoods stall on Barnoldswick Market on a Thursday and a Saturday, the council shop in Barnoldswick and Discover Pendle at Boundary Mill Stores in Colne. The walks leave Barnoldswick Town Square at 10am every Tuesday and a Facebook group “Explore The Barnoldswick Countryside” has also been set up.
