Vintage future for historic former pub

A landmark former Burnley pub is to re-open as a tea shop after having a loving makeover.

The General Scarlett in Accrington Road, once a Moorhouse’s Brewery pub, has been transformed into The Tea Room – based on an old fashioned tea room, but with a contemporary twist.

The Tea Room is a culmination of a labour of love for retired NHS worker Mrs Carol Kerr, who will run the business with her sister Noreen Brogna.

Carol put her retirement to good use, travelling the area collecting vintage crockery and looking for suitable premises for her new venture.

Carol said: “We will be serving specialty loose leaf teas and serving a variety of cakes and filled sandwiches.

“Many local suppliers have played their part in supporting the new venture and these not restricted to food suppliers, but local joiners, electricians, painters and catering appliance companies.

“We now have beautiful chandeliers hanging over tables with an eclectic collection of china tea pots, cups and saucers as well as a lovely display of jams, chutneys and marmalade for sale.”

A long-time friend of Carol’s, local community volunteer Mrs Brenda Midgley, and her duide dog Uska, will officially open The Tea Room tomorrow (Saturday) at 2pm.
