Mr John David, also a former Pendle borough councillor, was presented with a special monument for his garden planted up with evergreens by fellow councillors to mark the occasion.

Coun. Brian Newman, who has taken over from Mr David, said: “John has been on the parish council for a lot of years and has done an awful lot for Fence.

He has been involved in many campaigns to raise funds for the village and also to stop certain developments that nobody wanted.

He will be missed.

“Though I still ask him for advice.”
