Village fete raises £3,000 for charities

A village green played host to a fund-raising day for two worthy charities.

Read and Simonstone Jubilee Committee organised its second annual fete which was held on the green opposite the Stork Hotel, Simonstone.

And around £1,500 each was raised for Asthma UK and Macmillan Cancer Care.

Morag Gee, landlady of the Stork, said: “It was a brilliant day despite the weather and the amount raised was just fantastic.

“Unfortunately a few stalls had to cancel because of the rain but overall there were some great attractions.

“There was a vintage bus and a Punch and Judy show, as well.

“The day was organised by my daughter Nicola and all the committee. Our main sponsor on the day was Presspart of Blackburn, but I’d like to thank everyone who supported us on the day.”
