The group set up to help provide employment skills for people with learning difficulties has made a film about when to call the emergency services.

“Who You Gonna Call?” features a series of acted-out scenarios of people being the victim of theft, injuring themselves and also damage to property and asks viewers if they would know which number to ring to report each incident.

Project leader Sharon Lees, based at Vedas Recruitment, said although the film was aimed at vulnerable people and the elderly, it was proving useful for people of all ages who were uncertain about what numbers to ring.

She said: “The emergency services in England and Wales receive millions of calls from the public each year and a large percentage of these are non-emergency calls which do not require immediate response.

“Many of these calls are made to 999 operators when in many cases they could ring the non emergency numbers which are 101 for police non emergency and 111 non emergency health issues.”

The team, who made the the film with Lancashire Constabulary, spent two days filming and “Who You Gonna Call” was given a VIP launch at Burnley Town Hall. Among the guests were the Mayor and Mayoress of Burnley Coun. Andy Tatchell and his wife Lorna, Chief Insp. Vicki Crorken, and friends of family of members of Team Rise.

The film was produced with funding from Lanpac and Burnley Council’s Acorn Fund.
