Video: Christmas comes to Nelson & Colne College

There was a festive feel at Nelson & Colne College at the weekend as staff and students staged their first festive market that brought almost 1,000 visitors flocking in.

And the college certainly had the “X-Factor”, with former contestant Jack Walton paying a special visit to perform, answer questions and have his photo taken with countless fans.

Visitors browsed over 60 stalls offering festive treats, trinkets and gifts; plus enjoy a delicious array of food stalls and pampering treats from the Hair and Beauty department.

Visitors were also able to visit Santa’s grotto, including his reindeer and enjoy a variety of entertainment, ranging from live music to Pop-Up Panto! Staff and student volunteers also put on a range of curriculum activities, including a ‘Pick n Mix’ careers shop with the Apprenticeship Team, a forensic crime scene with Science, Social Sciences and Humanities staff, an assault course with PE and Public Services, Christmas card making with Child Care and Creative Arts and building bridges and flying remote controlled aeroplanes with Engineering!

College Principal Amanda Melton said, “It was truly an incredible day, enjoyed by the whole community - I don’t think I have ever seen the college so busy! Thanks must go to the traders who visited; from craft makers to food outlets and even pop-up panto! It was wonderful to see so many people from all walks of life drop in to enjoy the event and to showcase our new facilities. We’re very close to our local community and today was a celebration of that - proud to be Pendle!”
