This year also saw the visit of Kenny Baker, who played the lovable droid R2-D2 in all six films.

Speaking to the Express, David Prowse said: “This is my second visit to Burnley, but this is the busiest I’ve seen it.

“It’s wonderful to see so many fans, many of whom were not even born when the original films came out. I still travel around the world going to conventions and I’ve just released my autobiography. I’ve also recently had an operation my knee and hip so I really am bionic now!”

Fans travelled from around the country to catch a glimpse of their heroes. One fan, Patrick Daychild (19) from Runcorn even professed to being a member of the Church of the Jedi.
