UPDATED: Member of public ‘talks down’ M65 bridge jump man

Police have tonight released further details of an incident in which a man threatened to jump from a motorway bridge in Burnley.

Officers were called to the bridge over the M65 at Gannow around 4-30pm today (Monday). after reports of a white male in his mid-20s standing on the bridge parapet over the carriageway.

A police spokesman said the man had been talked down from the bridge by a member of the public who he said had done a “fantastic job”. The man who had threatened to jump was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital where he is currently being treated.
