Update: Police launch appeal for witnesses to serious Burnley road accident

Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious road accident in Burnley in the early hours of this morning.

As reported earlier today, the accident happened at around 3-30am when a suspect vehicle was seen by police in the area.

Following a short pursuit, the vehicle, a Honda Accord car, was involved in a collision with street furniture and other stationary vehicles on Colne Road at the junction with Casterton Avenue.

The driver, a 26-year-old man, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with suspected head and spinal injuries where he remains in a serious condition..

The road was closed by police while accident investigators attended the scene.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as a matter of course.

Temp Sgt Craig Booth, of Lancashire Police’s Tactical Operations, said: “We are appealing for witnesses after a serious road traffic collision in Burnley.

“We would urge anyone who saw what happened, or saw the Honda in the moments before the collision, to come forward.

“Furthermore if you have any CCTV or dashboard mounted camera footage which shows the incident, please get in touch with us.”
