UPDATE: Police inquiries into Nelson smash on-going

Police inquiries are on-going after the discovery of a badly-damaged Ford Galaxy people carrier in a field off Halifax Road, Nelson, this morning.

Officers were called to the scene around 7-45am by the owner of the field.

The vehicle had crashed through a fence and overturned several times, causing extensive damage.

There were no people at the scene and it is not known if anyone was injured in the accident.

Police have spoken to the owner of the vehicle and confirmed it had been stolen from Ashford Street, Nelson, at 6am today.
