Chocolate, cake and the sound of music are secret to long life for Burnley great great grandmother as she celebrates 100th birthday

And they must be good for you as Mary has just celebrated her 100th birthday.

Four generations of Mary's family gathered for a celebratory party at The Grove Care Home in Burnley, where she moved to in October.

Among those celebrating were Mary's son and daughter Keith and OIwyn, her seven grandchildren, great grandchilden and even great great grandchildren.

As she loves music The Grove booked singer Kirstie Charles who sang all Mary's favourite songs which she joined in with. And staff had a cake specially made to mark Mary's landmark birthday.

Originally from Coventry, Mary lived in North Wales and Oswaldtwistle for many years.

Laura Foulds, who is the care home's activity coordinator, said: "We had an amazing day and Mary enjoyed every last minute with all her family and she was still singing when she went to bed.

"Mary did have four children but her daughters, Janet and Pamela, died."
