U-turn over Post Office relocation plans

Post Office bosses have performed a dramatic U-turn over plans to relocate the Pike Hill facility to Brunshaw.

Angry residents have spent weeks campaigning against the proposals which would have seen the post office moved from its current home in Brownside Road to the Bottle Stop convenience store, Brunshaw Avenue.

The current premises are up for sale but a move to this site would have meant a two- bus journey for some constituents and a walk down one of the steepest residential streets in Burnley for others.

Burnley MP Julie Cooper said: “This is fantastic news. The outcome of the current consultation process had been anxiously awaited for some weeks now and I am very pleased to see that Post Office PLC have reached the only fair conclusion.”

However, with a site for the post office still to be found she did warn that the fight was far from over.

“I am informed that the Post Office business opportunity will soon be re-advertised, and it’s now important to encourage as many local businesses as possible in suitable locations, to apply.

“This is quite an achievement, as Post Office PLC do not often make a U-turn of this nature.

“Let’s hope that the residents of Cliviger, Worsthorne, Hurstwood and Pike Hill get a Post Office which they can access easily and safely following the second consultation process.”
