Two men arrested after serious accident closes M65 for five hours

Two men were arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving after a serious collision last night on the M65 which saw the road closed for five hours.

Police were called at around 5-50pm to reports of the collision westbound on the M65 between J14 (Colne) and J12 (Nelson & Brierfield).

A Renault Megane car had been involved in a collision with the central reservation and overturned.

Two vehicles, a BMW and Volkswagen, believed to be linked to the incident, made off from the scene.

The driver of the Renault, a man in his 40s, suffered a number of serious injuries, and a woman in her 30s, who was a passenger in the vehicle, also injured. Both were taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

The road was closed for several hours while accident investigators attended the scene.

A 26-year-old man and a 21-year-old man, both from Nelson, were later arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and are now in custody.
