Tragic death of jeweller Hilary

Mrs Hilary Turner (75) had been ill for six months and died on Saturday evening, with her family there at the time. Her funeral takes place this coming Tuesday at Burnley Crematorium at noon.

Mrs Turner was born in Yorkshire but moved to live in Burnley with her parents. She met her husband Bernard, who ran the family jewellers in Scotland Road, Nelson. His father Harry established the firm in 1924 and it has just had its 90th birthday. Her husband died 19 years ago.

The couple lived in Fence, but after Bernard’s death she moved to Stainton Drive in Burnley.

Mr and Mrs Turner have had four children – Andrew who runs the jewellers, his twin brother Stephen who now lives in America, and sisters Pamela and Gillian.

Son Andrew said: “She died peacefully at her home in Burnley with the family around her. We were all there at the end.”

And he said: “She was a keen hockey player at school in Burnley. She has attended churches – St Cuthbert’s in Burnley and St Paul’s in Nelson. Her and my father were married at St Cuthbert’s. She had a wicked sense of humour! She was a Burnley fan, too.”
