Routes effected include:

  • Avanti West Coast between London Euston and Glasgow Central
  • Northern between Manchester Airport and Blackpool North / Windermere / Barrow-in-Furness
  • TransPennine Express between Manchester Airport and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh

National Rail say trains running between Manchester Piccadilly / Victoria and Preston via Bolton may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

Avanti West Coast train services have confirmed they are unable to run between Bolton and Preston (in both directions). If your train is cancelled, your ticket is valid on one of the two Avanti West Coast services immediately before your booked train, or one of the two immediately after.

Northern services are also impacted. However, Northern Services between Manchester Victoria and Blackburn and between Blackburn and Preston are not affected. Several Northern services have been cancelled. Northern are advising customers to travel on the next Northern service to your destination, where available via Bolton and Blackburn. Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Alternative road transport will be operated by Bestway, Phantom Travel, Solomon Travel, RSZ and Premier as follows:

  • From Preston to Manchester Piccadilly, calling at Leyland, Buckshaw Parkway, Chorley, Adlington, Blackrod, Horwich Parkway, Lostock, Bolton, Salford Crescent, Deansgate, Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Piccadilly at 14:00 and 14:30
  • From Manchester Piccadilly to Preston, calling at Manchester Oxford Road, Deansgate, Salford Crescent, Bolton, Lostock, Horwich Parkway, Blackrod, Adlington, Chorley, Buckshaw Parkway, Leyland and Preston at 14:00 and 14:30

Please check station information posters for the location of the bus pick-up points and be advised that bicycles, e-bikes and dogs (except for service dogs) are not permitted on replacement road transport. Journey times may be extended by up to 60 minutes whilst travelling by road transport.

One Chorley-based passenger, whose Avanti West Coast train from London to Preston has been cancelled this afternoon, said huge queues were forming at Euston station for alternative bus transport also.
