Former Burnley mum raises £2,025 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation in Redcar Half Marathon
Tracy Wale, a mum-of-three from Burnley, raised £2,025 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation in the Redcar Half Marathon, inspired by her brother Denis who is undergoing treatment for stage four oral cancer at the centre.
Mum-of-three Tracy Wale set her alarm clock for 4-30 am training runs for three months solid to build up her stamina so she could complete last month’s Redcar Half Marathon, raising £2,025 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
Tracy ran in support of brother Denis Wale (59), of Burnley, who is currently undergoing treatment for stage four oral cancer at Rosemere Cancer Centre at the Royal Preston Hospital.
Denis, who has already completed 30 radiotherapy sessions at Rosemere is now receiving immunotherapy for his inoperable tumour, joined Tracy’s husband Matt, a keen runner and their children Oliver, Charlotte and Ria.
Tracy, who finished the 13.1 miles in two hours, 50 minutes, said: “Denis’ radiotherapy treatment was brutal but the care he’s receiving is second to none. We must support Rosemere Cancer Centre and other cancer centres to keep doing this amazing work.
“A lot of the support I received is testament to Denis. We grew up in the Accrington Road area of Burnley and Denis and our other brother Paul, who also still lives in Burnley, have lots of friends in the town. Many of them sponsored me for which I’m very grateful.”

Tracy now lives in Leeds where she runs her own vegan café, Scoffs. Tracy added: “I was really very grateful that so many Scoffs customers sponsored me.
“Being in Leeds, they can never benefit from Rosemere’s care as they are outside its catchment area so it was very generous of them.”
Tracy is planning some further fundraising and so is keeping her donation page at https://www.justgiving.com/page/tracy-and-ria-wale-1 open for the time being.
