Towneley Park memorial bench appeal

Towneley Hall and park where several memorial benches need to be removed as they are beyond repair.

And an appeal has gone out to the people who bought the benches to remember loved ones who have died, to come forward.

The appeal has been made by the Friends of Towneley group which looks after the scheme which has been running for many years.

Member Janet Smith said: "The benches in question will have to be removed as they are so dilapidated but we would like the people who bought them to come forward so they can be involved in the next step.

"We don't just want to destroy the benches without letting them know as they paid for them. They may want to keep the plaque or pay for another bench or another option for them is to have the plaque retained and placed on another bench."

Anyone who wishes to buy a memorial bench is now being encouraged to purchase a metal one as they are more durable but wooden ones are still available.

The group wants to contact relatives of the following people: Thomas Brian Gillespie, Philip Garth Eddleston, Jim Bradley, Marjorie Pollard Masedale, James Holbrok and Margaret Annie Derry.
