Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins to ride in East Lancashire

VICTORIOUS Tour de France hero Bradley Wiggins is set to bring some pedal power to East Lancashire.

The 32-year-old made history when he became the first British cyclist ever to win the Tour earlier today.

The Lancashire rider cruised home in Paris on the final leg of the world-famous race and sealed his place in the pantheon of cycling greats.

Fans will be able to catch up with the Olympic gold medal-winning track cyclist when he rides through Pendle and the Ribble Valley next month.

Wiggins will be joined by hundreds of other cyclists on the “Ride with Brad” event on August 19th.

The hero of British cycling will lead riders on a huge circuit course around parts of East Lancashire.

The event has been specially organised to help celebrate the launch of the Bradley Wiggins Foundation.

Riders will be in for a challenge with the sportive route which tackles some of roads on which Wiggins regularly trains.

A 100km and a 160km route have been set out which tour some of Lancashire’s most stunning scenery.

The 160km route conquers many challenging climbs and descents that have featured in the Tour of Lancashire, the Tour of Britain and the National Road Race Championships.

Renowned climbs such as Waddington Fell, Trough of Bowland, Nick o’ Pendle and Longridge Fell form the breath-taking backdrop to this challenging route.

The shorter 100km route misses out the northern moorland loop around the Trough of Bowland but still includes Barley Fell, Waddington Fell, Longridge Fell and the Nick o’ Pendle. Organisers say it is a shorter challenge but still with plenty of fantastic scenery and the chance to ride with Bradley.

Both routes start and finish at Victory Park in Barnoldswick on Sunday, August 19th.

The route will be fully signed and marshalled for safety and there will be a number of feed stations along the circuit.

A cycle show full of entertainment and displays will be held at the start/finish line in Barnoldswick for families to enjoy.
