Top art students head for Manchester Metropolitan Uni

Seven former Ribble Valley high school pupils who have gone on to study at St Mary’s College, Blackburn, have been offered places on the prestigious Foundation Art course at Manchester Metropolitan University. It is unusual for so many applicants from the same establishment to be accepted.

All seven are currently studying A-Level fine art, among other subjects, at St Mary’s art department. The course offers the traditional route to studying art and design at higher education, which enables students to experience and develop a wide variety of art and design techniques and media.

Andrea Westall, head of art, said: “We are immensely proud of all our students’ hard work. It is lovely to see they are widely appreciated by other art institutions. We were particularly delighted by the diverse portfolios the students put together.”

The students are : Alfie Verity, ex-Ribblesdale, from Blackburn (fine art); Felix Anwyl, ex-St Augustine’s, from Blackburn (fine art/graphics); Millie Chadwick, ex-St Augustine’s, from Blackburn (fine art/textiles); George Brown, ex-St Augustine’s, from Burnley (fine art/graphics); Hannah Cunliffe-Lee, ex-Bowland High, from Clitheroe (fine art/textiles); Kate Robinson, ex-Clitheroe Grammar, from Clitheroe (fine art/digital photography); Tara Porter, ex-Ribblesdale, from Clitheroe (fine art/digital photography).
