Suicide Squad legend jailed for fake charity collection

A PENDLE martial arts and Burnley FC Suicide Squad legend who falsely claimed he was collecting money for a kickboxing club has been jailed for 90 days.

Norman Jones (61), of Albert Street, Nelson, appeared before Pennine magistrates after pleading guilty to fraud by false representation.

Jones told people in the Witton Inn at Redlam, Blackburn, that he was working as part of a group who were collecting for the club using a charity collection tin.

He was arrested when an off-duty police officer recognised him from the Burnley area.

The officer in the case, PC Lee Harris, said: “Jones deliberately travelled away from his home town to commit crime in Blackburn, believing that he wouldn’t be recognised.

“He preyed on the goodwill of the local community and I am pleased with the sentence he has been given.”
