The Newcastle University law student, who previously studied in CLitheroe, allegedly posted abusive messages to the former England international on the social networking site earlier this month.

Collymore (40) who played for Liverpool, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest during his career, re-tweeted the messages to followers on the social networking site and reported the alleged abuse to Staffordshire Police.

Cryer was arrested and charged after Northumbria Police launched an investigation into the alleged abuse of the talkSPORT pundit who lives in Cannock.
