The first visitors to try out the new £500,000 facility were the group of firefighters who helped tackle the blaze which ripped through Pendle’s Wavelengths last year.

Crew manager Roy Edwards, along with his team from Nelson, swapped their yellow helmets and uniforms for fluffy spa robes and slippers as they sampled the new look spa.

“We are really pleased to be coming back to Inside Spa and to see it looking so fantastic,” said Roy. “We were first on the scene at the time of the incident. The conditions were very difficult and treacherous. We knew the spa contained a pool but there was so much smoke it was difficult to see where it was.”

The opening celebration was a culmination of more than 12 months hard work by the Trust with the new spa considered by industry experts to be the very latest in luxury, five star spa experiences.

Burnley FC players George Boyd and James Tarkowski were also amongst the first to sample the experience, midfielder Boyd saying: “It is a really lovely place, very impressive. It is fantastic for the area to have something as good as this.”

Inside Spa’s longest standing clients Dorothy Stringer and Nelson town councillor Kamran Latif were also invited to be part of the opening celebrations.

Both said they were “blown away” by the new facilities. Dorothy, who has been visiting the spa since it originally opened in 2007, said she was thrilled to see it back open, bigger and better. “It is looking amazing, very beautifully done. A great facility to have in the area.”

Spa manager Beverley Hinnigan was there when the fire broke out and had nothing but praise for the firefighters.

“They did a tremendous job on the day and we are so grateful to them. They deserve some pampering.

“I went in the day after (the fire) and because I’ve been here since it first opened I was choked up when I saw it. You always try and look for the positives and we are so grateful it was just contained to the spa.

“We’ve come a long way and we’re lucky to have very loyal clients who have still been coming in for treatment. It’s been over a year but it’s definitely been worth the wait. A lot of work, a lot of thought has gone into the new setup of the spa. We’ve changed a few things. We’ve extended the spa so it feels a lot more open.

“The closure has given us a real opportunity to look at the business and what we can do to improve . We’re looking forward to everyone seeing it for themselves.”
