A notice of forfeiture was served yesterday by landlord Ian Snowden due to the dilapidated state of the Ormeord Street building.

It will be reopening under new management on Friday, July 24th, with a free drink for the first 100 customers.

Craig Emmott will be DJing on Friday nights with DJ Scotty returning for the Saturday night slot. Paul Bentley will be the new manager.

Mr Snowden said: “The intention is to open on other nights and announcements will be made in due course. The name is of course staying the same but we are giving the bar a complete rebranding from the signage to the uniforms.

“Essential repairs and decoration will be carried out in the next weeks and Twitter, Facebook and YouTube accounts will be up and running shortly. Just keep an eye out for ‘Love Smacks’.”

Smackwater Jack’s, named after a song from the Carole King album “Tapestry”, opened in 1977 and has long been one of the most popular venues in town.
