Silver Line chief Sophie is Samaritans’ guest
Sophie Andrews (who is pictured centre, with Samaritans local chairman Catherine Scott and director Ian Hartley), a former chairman of the Samaritans nationally, spoke about the important role the helpline plays in the daily lives of older people, highlighting different aspects of the befriending service offered.
She also outlined the different roles played by those taking the calls at Silver Line and Samaritan volunteers.
The evening, which attracted more than 50 volunteers past and present, as well as invited guests, including Burnley MP Julie Cooper, also featured reports by the Samaritans’ local chairman and director, who highlighted the progressive work of the branch.
The evening also featured a video and photos of the Samaritans’ awareness day at Turf Moor last month and the presentation of long service awards to volunteers.
